30th Annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival

October 7-11, 2026

Online Store-Special Art!

In 2010, Heather Filgate, Development Director, asked her Stepfather, Bob, to create a painting representing all the facets of the Festival.  A very happy YES! Then the fun began. Bob had never attended the event so Heather took charge sending a multitude of maps, photos, brochures, anything that screamed “SHEEP”!

The painting was presented at Flat Top the Summer of 2012 for their fundraiser. Prints were created and sold with a percentage going back to the Festival.

For a limited time only, we are selling prints of the original oil on canvas prints. Purchase below with "Shop Now" button.

Where Are the Sheep?

Several ranchers in our region trail their sheep north into the mountains for summer grazing and then south in the Fall. For the best information about the anticipated locations of bands of sheep in the Wood River Valley, visit the Blaine County Recreation District’s Summer Trailink Site. As bands of sheep enter the Valley, the site’s maps are updated with sheep symbols indicating the reported locations of the various bands. Click on the symbols to reveal additional information about a particular band, including its expected movements. You can also visit BCRD's Summer Trail Etiquette page: https://bcrd.org/summer-trails/trail-etiquette/where information on recommended best practices when sheep are encountered, as well as land management agency information is available. (For additional information or to be added to the weekly Trails Update email, please email Ashley Knox, BCRD Trail Coordinator at aknox@bcrd.org or call the BCRD at 208.578.2273.)

*Should you encounter what seems to be a stray sheep, please contact the Ketchum Ranger District Office at 208.622.0090 or 208.622.5371
